Alternatives to delivering a baby

It is commonly assumed that to deliver a baby it will be in a hospital.Or to be more precise, a lot of people think that when you have a baby that you have to use medicine. In this article we are going to break those assumptions. We are going to describe some different methods that might be better for you.

Of course these observations are going to be coming from the viewpoint of my experience running a San Diego midwife service.  If you are unaware midwives are woman who help assist during the delivery process.  Most of the time with no medicine in a homebirth.

So why do some women choose this method? For a quite a few women who do choose this method and understand it, they have several factors for it.

First off, the use of no medicine actually helps speed up the labor and delivery process.A lot of women don’t even know that using medicine actually causes the labor to slow down.  Women use it to ease the pain but it actually prolongs the pain.  There are many certified midwives in San Diego who can show you proof of that.

Second, the use of the natural method and sometimes through waterbirth actually helps soothe and relax the bodies during delivery. This produces a delivery with less pain and makes having the delivery occur much faster.  I have seen it helping many women have a waterbirth in San Diego.

Those are a couple of the reasons that women choose a homebirth as the method to deliver.Even though there is no use of medicine and doctors aren’t usually present, it is still a safe alternative. When the delivery is in the home, it helps foster a more private and personal environment.Rather than the hospital where there will be quite a few different people who will be poking and prodding you during labor. So with those reasons in mind, many women are going with a homebirth. It is a dignified and safe way and a process that is natural.

Different options during pregnancy

One of the best times in a woman’s life is pregnancy.A lot of women really want to have kids.It is during those pregnancy months that those desires start to now come true.

During that pregnancy a lot of choices need to be made.  One of those choices is how to deliver the baby.It is a little strange to imply that there are different options be there are.  A lot of women usually go with using medicine to help deliver a baby. But there is a movement that is getting larger who decide to have the baby naturally.  That means no medicine to aid in delivery.  I have seen this from first hand experience as a San Diego midwife.  It is from that experience that I want to share some benefits.

Now how come more and more women are deciding on having no medicine for delivery.A few reasons.First thing to point out is that women are now starting to realize that medicine actually make the delivery slow down. When you have so much pain and your only desire is to have the baby as quickly as possible, using medicine kills that prupose.A lot of women are now starting to understand.  What women don’t realize is that they can do it that way. If they make the choice to have it done that way, they can utilize the services of a midwife.  In my part of the country there are quite a few midwives in San Diego.

A midwife is able to help a woman gently deliver. They could pick maybe delivering through waterbirth.Waterbirth is a form of delivery that utilizes water to help with the pain and help during delivery.

Another thing is if a woman decides, a midwife can also help in a homebirth as well. Once again you can find a homebirth midwife in San Diego if you look.

The many benefits of having the delivery at home is that the environment is less stressed and more relaxed. These two benefits alone make it inviting to have it naturally.  If you are pregnant, it might be a choice you would want to make.

Alternative Delivery Methods

One of the sadder consequences of our modern day of medicine is the fact that birth and delivery are for all intents and purposes a medical procedure.

That may sound strange because most people consider delivery to be a medical event. But that is the big problem.  It is not a medical event. It is an event that it is possible to keep it natural and private through alternate methods.  Women
should be notified to the fact there are alternate ways.

I would like to present one of those main alternatives from the perspective of a San Diego midwife.

That main alternative is having a homebirth midwife to assist you in your delivery.  This practice is known as midwifery and there are plenty of midwives San Diego.

As the amount of c-sections and induction rates rise in hospitals, it has transformed a very happy moment of delivery into a possible negative experience.

That is one of the primary reasons for the surge in women asking for more natural deliveries through a certified or licensed midwife.

Birth and the delivery shouldn’t necessarily include drugs, invasive procedures, private areas constantly being probled, etc.   It can be done safely and effectively in a home environment through that homebirth method or even a waterbirth San Diego method.

It is an industry that is highly regulated. You are able to know all about a midwife’s experience and skill if you are considering hiring them.

But getting beyond that stigma of having a baby not in a hospital but at home takes education. But through statistics and through personal experience a lot of women can see first hand that having the child in a hospital can have negative effect to the whole process. From potent drugs that are used ot slow the pregnancy down, or used to increase the speed of the pregnancy.  To having to go through a c-section.Hopefully women can see the comparisons and the contrast and see the success of using a midwife.

So for those women who want to try and keep the delivery of the baby a joyous occasion, using a midwife might be something they should look into.

With the dawn of the internet age, being able to find information about the natural process is as simple as doing a search on the internet.

There they can find very helpful information so they can understand the process fully. They can view any safety concerns and how it is handled. And most importantly they are able to witness the keeping of the delivery of a child a monumental occasion that is kept private and is still a happy event.

How to safely choose a midwife

Pregnancy, what a wonderful time for a woman.  Well, I guess aside from the sickness. But beyond that, the thought of a new baby arriving is exciting.

Usually, for women in general, the question of how you are going to have the baby isn’t that big.Because most women just do it the usual way which is a medical procedure which includes hospitalization, doctors, and drugs.

But for some women, an alternative is available. That alternate way is going through a midwife and having the baby naturally.  And it is that alternative I am going to share from my experience as a San Diego midwife.

For those that don’t know, midwives are women who perform natural, no drugs, deliveries.  This means usually no doctors.

Often times midwives in San Diego perform these services at homes.  Although, maybe all this is foreign to most people, it is a safe and regulated alternative way to deliver a baby.

The women, or midwives who practice this service are fully regulated.  They can come in the form of a licensed midwife or a certified midwife with a regulatory board overseeing them.

Sometimes the midwife can be a nurse, but that doesn’t have to be the case.

This form of delivery is an option a lot of women choose and includes waterbirth in San Diego. Most of the time this choice is made by women who prefer not to have any drugs during delivery so that they can keep the new baby away from drugs.  Also it is for women who don’t want any invasive procedures such as episiotomys.

Well when making a huge decision on how you want to deliver your baby you want to make the right choices.  With anything, you want to make sure you pick the right person.

As previously mentioned, it is a highly regulated industry. With that being the case, finding a good midwife who is licensed or certified is easy.

All you have to do is find your state regulatory board that  oversees midwives and do a background check to see if there have been any complaints or issues with your prospective midwife.

Something as simple as this step will help you determine if this is a midwife you can trust.  Obviously once you find that there are no complaints or reports against the midwife, you also want to check references.

You will want to find that midwife whose client base only have high praises for them.  With something as intimate and important as a delivery following these few steps will help you find the right midwife for your delivery.

Midwifery Schools of Thought

Pregnancy and the act of labor and delivery, although joyful, also a source of pain.Obviously joy is involved with the new baby, but if you ask most woman, they will also describe it was a source of unspeakable pain.

Well because there is that pain involved, two schools of thought have come about on how to deal with labor and delivery.  I am going to offer some perspective on one particular school of thought that I have gained first hand experience with by being a homebirth midwife San Diego.

There is the medical model for delivery which is associated with drugs to kill the pain, and sometimes cesarean to complete the delivery.

While there is another model, which though not widely accepted, for those who believe in it and have experience it consider it much safer and natural for the woman.

That model is called the midwifery model. That is in obvious contrast with the usual medical model way of doing things. The medical model is where you rely heavily on medicine, while the midwifery model relies on the natural.  Midwifery believes that pregnancy and delivery is a natural process and thus should be allowed to happen naturally.

This model is a profession practiced by midwives. Midwives San Diego are generally woman, who attend the birth, often times at the mother’s home. This midwife would help the woman try to deliver the baby as naturally as possible without the use of drugs.

Contrary to popular belief, the non-use of medicine actually allows the labor to happen much faster because most pain killers actually slows the labor down.

The midwife is a professional with a regulatory board that certifies and licenses the individual.

Although a lot of the times they are not a nurse or a doctor, a midwife sometimes is a nurse also.

Even though they are not a doctor or nurse, they do carry with them some medical equipment, such as resuscitation devices and suturing equipment.

So this is what a midwife is and what midwifery is in regards to pregnancy and delivery.

Their goals are to allow the birth and delivery to happen as naturally as possible. This reduced the need and use of a c-section.Does not subject you to hospital procedures that are invasive such as episiotomys.Less medical intrusion will be used such as drugs to speed up or slow the pregnancy or the breaking of the water. And for the woman the best part of all is that labor and delivery usually happen quicker naturally.

My hope is that this information has given you more information on the benefits of midwifery and using a midwife in your pregnancy. At the very least, it gives you some different options to look into and explore.  Remember this is first hand knowledge from a San Diego midwife.
